Where Stories Begin
There are stories behind the stories.
Not plot twists or deleted scenes, but the quieter things that rarely make it onto the page: the places that linger long after I've left them, the songs that refuse to let go, the questions that arrive without answers and somehow become novels anyway.
For a long time, I thought this space would simply be a blog. It isn't, not really. It's closer to a journal, a place for the thoughts that live between books, where the conversations move slower and the ideas have room to breathe.
Some entries will be about the writing itself, the process, the craft, the small decisions no reader ever sees. Others will wander into music, place, or the way a story quietly reshapes the person telling it. And some won't be about any of that at all. Just a moment that insisted on being remembered.
The novels will always sit at the center of what I do. This journal is everything that grows up around them.
If you found your way here because of a book, welcome back. If this is your first time discovering my work, I'm glad you're here. However you arrived, I hope you'll find something in this space that lingers with you a little longer than a scroll usually does.
Stories rarely begin with the first chapter. Sometimes they begin with a conversation.
Welcome to mine.
Until next time, may you always find beauty in the quiet places where stories begin.
Warmly,
Sheridan Laine
